I will begin my blog with a post about a quilt I just completed. I had several coordinating scraps of fabric left over from a previous quilt. The scraps were all different sizes and quantities, but there were plenty of them. I had been trying to come up with a pattern to use them, but nothing seemed to work.
There is a relatively easy and popular quilt pattern called the 1600 jelly roll race quilt. These are typically made with a "jelly roll", which is a packet of 40 fabric strips. I thought this quilt pattern could be adapted to make with my scraps, so I gave it a try. I am actually very pleased with how this quilt turned out. The colors are so happy and cheerful, and are a little different.
Often I make quilts without a plan for where the quilt will end up, but I want to make the quilt because of the fabrics, or the pattern, etc. This was one of those quilts. Then a perfect situation came about... My sister and her friends wanted to do something for a friend who is ill. This quilt ended up being a gift for their friend who is going through a very challenging time. It represents a tangible reminder of their love and support, and she was very moved by their thoughtfulness.
This experience reinforces my desire to make quilts. Sometimes they can be a lot more than just pretty pieces of fabric stitched together!
